Design & Technology
Our Year 7 course is divided in to half termly schemes of work.
During this school year Year 7 will focus on;
- Health and Safety in the workshop.
- Developing knowledge and skills when using hand tools.
- Understanding about properties of materials.
Students make 3 projects throughout the year to illustrate their skills of hand tools and knowledge of different materials. they will also be introduced to CAD/CAM.
Our Year 8 course is divided in to half termly schemes of work.
Year 8 will focus on exploring the properties of material when designing. Identifying appropriate materials for different task.
Focussing on making different types of joints using different types of materials.
Pupils will tackle 3 Design Make Assignment (DMA)

Our Year 9 course is divided in to half termly schemes of work.
Year 9 will focus on selecting and using different materials. Which will enable them to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of specific materials in making the correct choice for different projects.
During this school year, we will be developing learner’s skills in various ways;

- Design and make Activity with [key focus on types of joints]
- Product Development / Analysis
- Product Drawing
- Product Evaluation
Year 10 & 11
Year 10 & 11 will focus on Level 1/2 Technical Award Materials Technology.
This Technical Award in Materials Technology will help learners develop the knowledge, skills and experience and could potentially open the door to a career in related industries.
Pupils will study materials in a practical way and understand the working properties of woods, metals and polymers. It will enable learners to;
Work in a hands-on way to develop the core skills to make high-quality products using woods, metals and polymers. They also have the opportunity to use traditional skills and also modern technologies.
Learners will be assessed in creating;
- A piece of jewellery.
- A child’s toy from sustainable materials.
- A piece of furniture for the home.
- A storage solution.
- A piece of garden furniture.
